Bangkok

We arrived in the quintessential backpackers city of Bangkok for a few days before we moved onto Cambodia. The main backpacker hangout of Khao San Road has been taken over by party-goers there to get alcohol and buy ridiculous trinkets. Everything from "traditional" tribal hats, green laser pointers, to Pad thai for 60 cents. You can even buy a college diploma or PADI certification card here! Vendors aren't here just for the tourists though as a bustling day market sells all kinds of sweets which are brightly colored and smell great.

Rash about to chow down on some good ol' roasted corn!

Our first night we chose a hotel too close to this action and were kept up by loud music. Upon moving just a few streets down we were able to get a good nights rest. Besides enjoying the plentiful and cheap food that abounds here we spent a day exploring the Royal Palace, the temple of the Emerald Buddha, and Wat Pho, which is home to the world's largest reclining buddha. Not many temples can claim that!

The palace grounds has exquisitely decorated temples in a variety of styles including Cambodian and Buddhist artwork. It was all a little overwhelming. A beautiful mural borders the entire grounds and depicts the Thai version of the Ramayana.

Wat Pho neighbors the Royal temple grounds and has a number of nooks to explore. We walked around the reclining buddha and then headed back exhausted from the sun, heat, and the beauty.

It was hard to get the whole buddha in the picture
